There is no reliable method to say that ovulation has occurred. The most commonly used method to detect ovulation is through the use of ultrasound. Your physician would monitor your follicles as they mature, and tell you if an egg has been released. During this time, you might be advised to have sexual intercourse every other day.

You might also use other methods like monitoring your body temperature and using an ovulation kit (similar to a pregnancy kit), but these are not as accurate as the ultrasound.

To boost your chances of getting pregnant over 40, a major lifestyle overhaul may be in order. No more caffeinated drinks or hard beverages for you. The same goes for cigarettes. Cigarettes, caffeine and alcohol have deleterious effects on the quality of your eggs. They may also wreak havoc on your menstrual cycle, thus interfering with ovulation.

Caffeine and alcohol are also believed to cause other conditions which may impair your fertility like endometriosis and tubal diseases. What’s more, if you do get pregnant, these compounds may result in spontaneous terminations. Now, have I given you sufficient reasons to turn your back on these three?

You will also enhance your chances of getting pregnant naturally if you take up an exercise program, yoga, or meditation. Fertility is negatively affected by stress and excess weight. Being a few pounds overweight interferes with your menstrual cycle and ovulation. Regular exercise and yoga releases endorphins, natural hormones which relaxes you. These activities also help you maintain your ideal weight.

Despite all these concerns, why do women delay getting pregnant till they are in their 40s? Stay away from caffeine and alcohol. Caffeine is alleged to interfere with levels of estrogen, leading to infertility. Caffeine is also postulated to cause problems in the fallopian tubes, making it difficult for the egg to be fertilized by a sperm. Women who drink 2 to 3 cups of coffee daily are considered to have a significant risk for getting pregnant-related problems. Also, drinking more than 6 cups of coffee per day is associated with a substantial risk for having spontaneous abortions or giving birth to a small baby.

Drinking alcoholic beverages have been found to meddle with the menstrual cycle and with ovulation. Even taking in a single drink weekly have been found to adversely affect one’s chances of getting pregnant

And if you do get pregnant, alcohol has been found to increase the risk for spontaneous abortions, preterm deliveries, and having stillbirths. Babies born to an alcoholic mum may have mental and developmental disorders. One of the most feared effects of alcohol in babies is the fetal alcohol syndrome, which is characterized by mental retardation, behavioral problems, growth delay, and a characteristic facies.

Relax. Stress negatively affects fertility. Stress releases certain neurotransmitters which disturb the menstrual cycle and causes anovulation. Most women who have difficulty conceiving often feel mounting pressure, real or imagined, from friends and loved ones. They may feel that something is wrong with them. If you are harboring these feelings, stop. Worrying will not help you get pregnant. You may enroll in yoga or visit the spa.

Keep an open mind about alternative medicine. If you are on fertility treatments and is increasingly disappointed with the results, you may opt to take a break. At the beginning following a routine could be much of a headache but it will pay off in the end because you will know what cry is for what and believe me they all sound different. If you have an older child that requires you to travel them to school and so forth you need not to worry because your baby’s routine can be worked around this part of the day. At the time that you need to drive your baby’s nap time could be then.

When I had my twins it had made my life a lot easier to follow a routine rather then just let them run the show. I had been able to make appointments around them and I could even do my shopping and errands with them not fussing at all. When my third child arrived people always stated that it must be easier having one baby rather then two but it wasn’t and I begun to wonder why. There was no routine that was in place, quickly I started to follow and my life was a whole lot simpler.

Before you start feeding your baby solid food you first need to have many bibs, bowls and spoons that are not breakable, and a food processor.

The very first solid baby food to try is rice cereal, it is low in protein and will not be likly to cause any allergic reaction. Mix the rice with breast milk or with formula and be sure that it is mixed thin, it will be simpler for you baby to swallow. After your baby is used to the rice you can try to add some vegetables to it, then fruit. It is best to try vegetables first because your baby may not want to eat then if you first give your baby sweet fruit.

Be sure to avoid cow’s milk until your baby is one year old. When your baby has had cows milk for more then a month you could try other dairy products. It would be best to gradually get your baby onto solid food, wait at least twenty four hours in between trying any other new food, this will give you some input so if there is an allergic reaction.

It is a good idea to let your baby be in charge when it comes to trying new foods. Also remember that your baby may need a top up with a bottle, it will let you know.
